Castle of Aspremont-Lynden in Oud-Rekem
From all the small cities and villages at the river Maas (Meuse), Oud-Rekem probably has the most authentic character of them all. It was rightly proclaimed as ‘Most beautiful village of Flanders’. The picturesque and historic town was once an independent lordship with its own currency, toll and jurisdiction.
The castle of Aspremont-Lynden (1595) undergoes a yearly transformation into a (wonderful/delightful/splendid) location for contemporary art.
There’s a certain charm between the art and the empty castle. Not that it’s the easiest location to exhibit in, if it’s only because the audience can feel the tension of its noble and psychiatric past.
It’s an unconventional, welcoming place for the unusual where everything is possible and nothing is forced. A place where today, thanks to the many efforts of Forum-Tri, a unique historical past and exciting contemporary art go together in perfect harmony.
